Am pretty sure you noticed that people tend to look better when they are seen in a group. If a group of average looking people got together you are very likely to see them as more attractive. This phenomenon is called the cheerleader effect.

Before you know why people look better in groups you first need to know an important concept about the psychology of attraction.

Average faces are perceived as more attractive than other types of faces. What’s meant by an average face in here is a face that has no distinct feature such as a very big nose or an extremely noticeable feature that is out of proportion.

We find average faces attractive because they are easier to process and because they don’t seem to have any noticeable flaws.

Why people look more attractive in groups

So what does this has to do with seeing people in groups?
When you look at a group of people your brain sees them as one unit. Your brain doesn’t just see every person alone but it sees the whole group as one single thing.

Your brain then averages out the features of the whole group as if they are a single person and this is why the group ends up looking much better. If for example someone in the group has a big nose then this big nose is averaged out by the people who have small noses and so on.

In other words the looks of the whole group is translated by your brain as the looks of one person with average facial features and this is why groups look more attractive.

When you see a group of people your brain automatically averages out the unsymmetrical faces and so you end up with a highly symmetrical group face.

How to look more attractive

If you want to instantly look more attractive then make sure that you are surrounded by a group of average looking people. Take a picture with a group of people and post it online and people will think that you are more attractive.

It would make a lot of sense not to include an extremely attractive person in the picture so that they don’t capture all the attention. The trick here is to make sure that all faces are average so that you all end up looking more attractive.

When i talked about Attraction psychology i said that there are so many things that you can do in order to make yourself look better apart from just trying to improve your physical looks.

The human mind can be tricked very easily and you can very easily change someone’s perception of your attractiveness by just doing the right things.

In other words, be confident even if you don’t think you look that attractive.

People who don’t understand how others perceive physical attraction usually develop the imagined ugliness disorder.
